Are you looking for ways to grow your business with Pinterest? In this post, I've put together 27 Pinterest marketing tips that will help you drive more traffic to your site from Pinterest. Check out all the Pinterest marketing tips below, and let me know in the comments which ones you're going to try.

27 Pinterest Marketing Tips

1 | Clean Up Your Boards

Pinterest is a search engine NOT a social media platform, this is so important for you to understand. You need to get really good at finding and using keywords so your pins will show up when people are searching for them. You'll want to use these popular keywords to name your boards and add them to your board descriptions.

Make sure all your boards are on-topic and serve your audience, not you. If you have any personal or off-topic boards, you should make these boards secret or archive them.

2 | Research keywords for SEO optimization

Like I said above, you should know what topics of interest your target audience is searching for on Pinterest so your pins show up when people are looking for them. Having these targeted keywords on your account, boards, and pins will help you get better results because you will start showing up in the search feed.

3 | Pick the best times to pin

Your target audience is NOT on Pinterest all day long. You need to figure out who you are targeting on Pinterest and pin at optimal times. How can you figure this out? There are a few different ways to do this...

1. Pinterest recommends between the hours of 2-4 PM and 8 PM-12 AM.

2. Figure out the best times based on who your audience is. Do you target stay-at-home moms? They will most likely be on Pinterest during the early morning hours or late evening after the kids are in bed.

3. If you have Tailwind you can check your smart schedule and see if there is a good block of time to pin.

4 | Create a niche account

You need to make sure that your entire account, boards, and pins are all related and make sense to pinners and to Pinterest. Does Pinterest know who you serve? Your activity lets them know what you're about and what kind of pinners need to see your pins.

5 | Be consistent

Pinterest LOVES people who actually use their platform. They want daily activity and they want to see that you're adding valuable content to their platform on a weekly basis. Don't think that scheduling your pins is as effective as using the platform as a pinner. You can have a scheduler running in the background, but make sure that you're also checking in and pinning manually a few times a week.

6 | Create Professional looking pins

This is the HOLY GRAIL of Pinterest success. When your pins look professional, you will start getting noticed and start getting more clicks on your pins. If you want to brush up on your pin design skills or get access to customizable of Pin Templates check out the Secret Pinners Club.

7 | Create multiple pins for one piece of content

Repurpose, repurpose, repurpose! This is the name of the game on Pinterest. You can have AS MANY different pins going to the same piece of content as you want or can create. A great tip for you... change your headlines (text overlay) with each different pin to appeal to different people. Here is an example of someone I found on Pinterest who is doing this very well.

    8 | Optimize your profile

You have your popular keywords, now you need to add them to your Pinterest profile. Place the most relevant ones in your bio and your profile name (if you can fit it in there).

    9 | Pin popular 3rd party pins

You want to add valuable pins/content. If you're struggling to figure out how to do this... just use the search bar on Pinterest and put in your keyword. Start pinning the pins that show up near the top. These are the MOST popular pins and should also be popular with your audience.

10 | Test pinning more or less

As a Pinterest marketer, you should constantly be testing different strategies. You can test pinning more per day or pinning less per day for a week or two, and see how that affects your traffic.

    11 | Know your numbers

Pinterest analytics are super finicky and not always accurate. I use Google Analytics or my stat tracker from WordPress to check the popularity of my pins. I also use this information to learn what topics and pin designs resonate with my audience on Pinterest.

    12 | Do more of what's working

Once you know what's working (by checking your results) you can do more of what's working and less of what's not. Are you struggling to figure out what isn't working for you on Pinterest? Book a custom Pinterest review with me and get the advice you need for better results.

13 | Use Pinterest to create magnetic content

Once you have been on Pinterest for a while, you will start to notice a few pins that are really resonating with pinners. Can you create new content that expands on this problem or topic? Or you can use your keyword research and create content based on the most popular searches.

14 | Pin new pins every week

Pinterest recommends you create new content or pins once a week. I recommend you create at least 7 new pins per week. Remember this doesn't need to be new content but it can be new pins for older content.

    15 | Analyze your pins

You should be checking your individual pin stats on a regular basis. You should be looking at your impressions and clicks. Do you have at least a 1% or higher click-through rate? This is the base guideline I use when seeing what pins are resonating with my audience.

    16 | A/B test pins

Want to see which pin design or headline will get better results? This is one of my favorite things to do! You simply create 2 different pins for the same piece of content and pin them against each other. You should have some interesting data after 30 days.

17 | Use the native Pinterest scheduler

Yes, Pinterest has a FREE scheduler. You can schedule from Pinterest desktop or the app (no Android yet) and you can save pins up to 30 days in advance. Read this post to learn more.

    18 | Create video pins

Video pins are here to stay and you'll want to consider using them (even if you don't use video content for your blog or business). You can create pins that stand out and grab attention in the feed using an animated pin. This pin looks a lot like a gif. This is really easy to create in Canva. If you want to see examples of video pins on Pinterest just type your niche and "videos" after it and check out all the creative ways people are taking advantage of video on Pinterest.

19 | Connect your YouTube channel

2023 Update: Unfortunately Pinterest recently took away this option. Let Pinterest send traffic and subscribers to your YouTube channel. To connect: go to your profile click settings, and you'll see an option to connect YouTube and your other social media accounts (and Instagram).

20 | Connect your Instagram account

Grow your Instagram account with Pinterest. When you connect your Instagram account to Pinterest, your profile name and follow button will show up under your pins. It's like having rich pins for your Insta account.

21 | Log in to Pinterest regularly

Do you ever just log in to Pinterest and browse around? Maybe save some amazing pins for your audience? Yes, I know our goal is to set Pinterest on auto-pilot but... you miss a lot of what's happening when you're hands-off. Plus, Pinterest rewards you with increased reach when you consistently use their platform.

    22 | Try manual pinning

Going off of tip 21 above. Give manual pinning a try. I find it much easier than scheduling, I'm serious. I can do my daily pinning in just 5-10 minutes a day using my smartphone.

23 | Sign up for Tailwind

I still use a scheduler because sometimes life happens am I right? Although I try to stay consistent with my daily pinning, sometimes I go a few days without pinning. If I have my Tailwind queue set up with scheduled pins, I can relax knowing that I'm still staying active on the platform (even when I'm not physically present).

    24 | Create valuable content

Do you know what your target audience is struggling with? Something you can help them with? Pinterest can give you so many insights into what kinds of content are popular. It can also give you ideas for amazing NEW content to create that solves that same problem.

25 | Give them what they want

When you figure out what type of content is resonating with your people on Pinterest, then you can continue to give them more of that. You will start to get your brand noticed and this will continue to give you better and better results.

    26 | Use better headlines

You need to create headlines that spark some kind of curiosity. You might think of "click-bait" when I say that but we really do need to get that click. As long as you can fulfill the promise in your headline then it's not click-bait.

Consider using adjectives to create some mystery or need to know in people. People just have to find out what's on the other side of that pin. Browse Pinterest and see what kind of headlines make you want to click through. And figure out why. This can be very helpful and this is the very reason why you'll want to create a couple of different headlines for the same piece of content.

    27 | Test different strategies

You should always be testing things and then stop testing them when they start working. If you start to notice a decline in traffic you could try pinning less for a few days or try pinning more. You could try cleaning up your boards and creating better keywords to see if that helps. Create new pin designs and test those out. Create new content. Get familiar with your analytics so you can figure out what's going wrong.
